Synopsis and Discussion

A smoky air mass is in place across the Triad and particle pollution levels have pushed into the upper Code Yellow range. Unsettled weather is on tap for tomorrow which is resulting in a difficult AQI forecast. The smoky air mass will be in place through much of the day but with around an inch of rain expected, some cleansing of the lower atmosphere is likely to occur. As a front passes through and a cleaner air mass streams in late in the day, conditions should improve. But in terms of a daily average for particle pollution, that will likely net out somewhere near the Code Green/Yellow threshold and the take home message is that air quality should improve as the day progresses. Code Green AQI readings are expected to return to round out the workweek before a slight uptick toward the Code Green/Yellow threshold occurs on Saturday. (Greg Perrotte / perrotgt@forsyth.cc)
